A theologically deep piece for the rooms where homecoming and forgiveness mean something. Parable of the Prodigal Son was made for living rooms, family rooms, dining rooms, offices, prayer corners, fathers' studies, and gallery walls, and pairs naturally with minimalist, classic, neutral, beige, and contemporary interiors. The linen beige palette and the long-perspective architectural composition make this one of Christian Modern's most-chosen pieces for Lent and Easter season decoration, father gifts, son gifts, family reconciliation gifts, gifts after baptism or confirmation, gifts for those returning to faith, and gifts for prodigals walking home. The Prodigal Son is the Lectionary reading for the 4th Sunday of Lent in the Roman Catholic Rite and appears across all major Christian traditions as the iconic parable of repentance, mercy, and the father's compassion.

About the Parable of the Prodigal Son & Luke 15:20

The Parable of the Prodigal Son is recorded in Luke 15:11-32 and is the third of three parables Jesus tells in response to the Pharisees' complaint that he welcomes sinners and eats with them. A father has two sons. The younger demands his inheritance early, takes it to a distant country, and squanders it in wild living. When a famine comes, he sinks so low he hires himself out to feed pigs and longs to eat their food. He comes to his senses, rehearses an apology, and turns toward home. The verse on this piece, Luke 15:20, captures the moment of return: "His father saw him and was filled with compassion; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him." The father throws a feast. The elder son, who never left, refuses to celebrate, and the father walks out to meet him too, with the same compassion. The parable goes by many names, the Lost Son, the Loving Father, the Forgiving Father, the Parable of the Two Brothers, because it is, finally, less a story about a son who left than a story about a father who never stopped watching the road. It is the Lectionary reading for the 4th Sunday of Lent in Year C of the Roman Rite and appears across Eastern Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, and Evangelical traditions as the single most-illustrated parable of repentance, mercy, and the love of God the Father.
