Viewing distance decides more than wall width
In a living room people sit eight to twelve feet back, which gives a 60 inch canvas room to resolve and read as one image.
In a hallway nobody stands more than four feet back, so an oversized piece is taken in as fragments rather than as a whole. A deliberate choice, but a different one.

What is the two-thirds rule for wall art?
