Art Details

The Catholic-traditional, sacramental-gift version of the Guardian Angel collection. Guardian Angel—Beige & Gold was made for the rooms where the faith of the home is visible, foyers and entryways, dining rooms, family prayer corners, godparent gift settings, RCIA mentors' homes, Catholic schools and parish offices, and gallery walls of traditional sacred art, and pairs naturally with warm linen, Tuscan beige, Mediterranean ivory, gold-accented, traditional Catholic, and classical interiors. The gold in this palette reads as the golden hour of the saints, the halo color of two thousand years of Catholic iconography, which is why this is the version most often gifted for confirmations, RCIA candidates, baptisms, godparent gifts, First Communion, and the Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels on October 2. The piece sits naturally beside a crucifix, a Marian image, or a saint card. The "Angel of God" prayer that Catholic children have prayed at bedside for centuries finds its image here.

About the Angel of God Prayer & October 2 Feast

The Guardian Angel tradition is one of the oldest devotions in the Catholic Church. The foundational scriptures are Psalm 91:11, "For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways," and Matthew 18:10, where Jesus says of children, "their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father." The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC 336) holds: "From infancy until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession." The traditional Angel of God prayer, taught to Catholic children for centuries and granted indulgences by Pius VI, Pius VII, and successive popes, reads: "Angel of God, my Guardian dear, to whom God's love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen." The Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels is celebrated each year on October 2, a date set on the General Roman Calendar by Pope Paul V in 1607 and ranked an obligatory memorial since 1976. The warm beige and soft gold of this piece honor that tradition, the halo color of the saints, the golden iconography of two thousand years of Catholic devotion, the sun above the angel reading as the light Christ promised would never leave His people. The dove and olive branch overhead carry the older covenant promise of Genesis 8:11, that the storm is over and peace has come.
