The bedside, nighttime-protection version of the Guardian Angel collection. Guardian Angel—Midnight Blue is the only piece in the four-palette set that shows a full moon instead of a sun, which is why it was made for the rooms where children sleep, baby boy nurseries, big boys' bedrooms, son's bedside walls, navy-toned modern boys' rooms, bunk-bed walls, dorm walls for young men, and the wall beside a child's bed where the bedtime prayer is said. The piece pairs naturally with deep navy, midnight, charcoal, slate, classic boy's room palettes, navy-and-white nautical, dark academia, and modern moody nursery interiors. The luminous moon above the angel reads as the night light of God's promise, the visible version of the old Catholic prayer Catholic children have said at bedside for centuries: "Good night, my Guardian Angel, the day has sped away. Watch over me while I'm sleeping, my Angel dear, good night." This is the version most-gifted for baby boy baby showers and dedications, "first night in his own room" graduations from the bassinet, "afraid of the dark" comfort gifts, dorm gifts for sons going to college, deployment gifts for fathers and sons in the military, and the bedside altar a young Christian boy keeps in his room.

About the Good Night Prayer and Psalm 91

The bedside Guardian Angel is one of the oldest traditions in Christian devotion. The full text of Psalm 91, of which verse 11 is the heart, opens with the words "You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day" (Psalm 91:5), the psalm has always been read as a prayer for protection through the dark hours as much as through the daylight ones. The Catholic "Good Night, my Guardian Angel" prayer, taught for centuries at the bedsides of children, makes it explicit: "Good night, my Guardian Angel, the day has sped away; well spent or ill, its story is written down for aye. And now, of God's kind providence, thou image pure and bright, watch over me while I'm sleeping, my Angel dear, good night." The luminous full moon above the angel in this piece is the visible version of that nightly promise. It is the watch-light God leaves on. Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, writing in the 12th century, said that the guardian angel "is your faithful keeper, your wise counselor; in all the dangers of this life, your unwearied guardian." Pope Pius VI granted indulgences for the Angel of God prayer when prayed morning and evening; the evening half belongs especially to this piece. Hung above a child's bed, beside a nightlight, on the wall a parent sees last before turning off the light, the midnight blue guardian angel says the verse one more time before sleep: "He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways."
